David Silva avoids cheekbone fracture after Cheikhou Kouyate elbow

David Silva escaped a serious injury as Manchester City confirmed that he had not suffered a fractured cheekbone or broken collarbone in their 2-0 win over West Ham on Sunday.

The Premier League champions allayed fears their Spanish playmaker could miss the rest of the season after doctors examined him.

Silva was given oxygen, stretchered off and taken to hospital with a suspected fractured cheekbone and broken collarbone after he was caught by an elbow by Hammers midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate.

However, the Premier League champions are confident that the World Cup winner will not face a lengthy spell on the sidelines, saying on their official website that "hospital tests showed no fracture" and that "early reports are encouraging."

Silva had already announced on Twitter that he had left hospital.

Teammate Fernando added: "On the pitch it looked like a serious injury but inside the dressing room, when we discussed it, I think he is going to be OK. We just hope everything is going to be OK."
