Manuel Pellegrini's Man City in worse form than sacked counterparts

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has presided over a worse run of form than it took to sack many of his peers at elite clubs in England.

Pressure has mounted on Pellegrini after a 4-2 hammering in the Manchester derby that was his sixth defeat in the last eight games in all competitions.

When compared to his rivals, the Chilean's rate of four wins in 15 games is worse than David Moyes' six in his final 15 matches at Manchester United and similar to Andre Villas-Boas (five in his last 16 at Chelsea) and Kenny Dalglish (four in his last 12 at Liverpool.)

Even Pellegrini's predecessor, Roberto Mancini, fared better as he won 10 of his final 14 games in charge, while City sacked Mark Hughes in 2009 after just one loss -- but plenty of draws -- in 15 games.

Since 2000, English clubs who had qualified for the Champions League in the three years prior to sacking a manager axed 23 of their bosses and only one had suffered six defeats in such a short space of time. Leeds sacked Peter Reid in 2003 after six successive losses in a season that culminated in relegation.

This is how Pellegrini's recent record -- six defeats from eight games; eight losses in 14; only four wins in 15 -- compares with those of managers when they were sacked:
