Stevan Jovetic keen to prove worth at Manchester City

Stevan Jovetic is determined to stay at Manchester City and fight for his place.

Jovetic, 25, has been tipped to leave the Etihad Stadium, with Juventus linked with a loan move for the forward following the arrival of 25 million-pound signing Wilfried Bony from Swansea earlier this month.

However, sources have told ESPN FC that City will not loan the Montenegro international out and that it would take a huge bid for them to consider selling him.

And Jovetic himself has told Sky Sports: "I never wanted to go because I have a lot more to show and a lot more goals to score."

Jovetic, who joined City from Fiorentina in 2013 for 22 million pounds, has only made 11 Premier League starts during an injury-hit 18 months at the club.

He lost his place in the side when Sergio Aguero returned to fitness and struggled to play as a lone striker during the Argentina international's absence.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini has made a point of saying that Bony was bought to replace Alvaro Negredo -- who left in September for Valencia -- rather than Jovetic, and he is known to prefer to have a quartet of strikers in his squad.

Jovetic came off the bench in City's 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday -- a result which leaves them five points behind league leaders Chelsea.

Their next league game is away against the Blues on Jan. 31, and Jovetic is not yet writing off City's chances of catching Jose Mourinho's side.

"We were behind eight points [earlier in the season] and now it is five," he added. "Of course it is going to be tough because they are a good team, but now we play against them, we have to beat them.

"It's not going to be easy, but I believe that we can do it. The biggest characteristic after a bad game like Arsenal is to recover well and to play good the next game and win."
