Manchester City could have striker Stevan Jovetic available vs. Burnley

Manchester City can revert to fielding a specialist striker against Burnley as Stevan Jovetic has returned to fitness.

The Premier League champions have played without their three premier centre-forwards for their last two games, which they have both won, scoring six goals, but manager Manuel Pellegrini is considering recalling Montenegro international Jovetic on Sunday.

The former Fiorentina attacker has not featured in City's last three matches after suffering a hamstring problem but was available for the Boxing Day victory over West Brom, when Pellegrini decided not to risk him on the pitch at The Hawthorns.

"Jovetic was on the bench so maybe he will be fit for Sunday. We'll see [on Saturday] and have 48 hours to decide," said Pellegrini in his news conference after the 3-1 win.

"He was available to play today without any problem but it wasn't important for him to play and the pitch was difficult for a muscle injury."

In Jovetic's absence, James Milner has led the line in City's last two games, when all six goals came from other midfielders.

City's other two strikers, Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero, are due back around the middle of January.

Captain Vincent Kompany, who has missed their last two games with calf and hamstring problems, could also come into contention against Burnley.

Right-back Bacary Sagna, who made a rare start against West Brom, expects Pellegrini to ring the changes with Pablo Zabaleta likely to return in his stead.

He told City's official website: "We don't know in advance who will play, but to give the manager the choice of rotating the team, we have to put in performances, to show we are motivated, and to show when we get a chance to play, that we can bring something to the team.

"We have two games in 48 hours and I am looking forward to being in the squad. Whether I sit on the bench, or play, I don't mind, because I am here to give the maximum to the team, and if Zaba plays I will give him as much support as I can."

Fernandinho, Frank Lampard and Aleksandar Kolarov, none of whom started the West Brom game, could also be brought into the side on Sunday.
