Sergio Aguero: I will stay at Man City until we win the Champions League

Sergio Aguero has promised to stay at Manchester City until they win the Champions League -- however long that takes.

The Premier League champions have only taken two points from their first four games in Europe this season and are on the brink of elimination after losing 2-1 to CSKA Moscow on Wednesday night.

But while they have never gone beyond the last-16 of the Champions League, top scorer Aguero has insisted he is happy to remain at the club to continue their quest to be officially the finest team in the continent.

Aguero signed a five-year contract extension in August but vowed he will be around beyond its conclusion in 2019 if City are not European champions by then.

Speaking at the launch of his autobiography "Born To Rise", he told reporters: "Not only will I stay the four [remaining] years to make it eight here in total, I'll stay beyond that -- until we win it."

City's failure to establish themselves in Group B has City virtually out and Aguero admitted that, unless they can beat Bayern Munich and Roma in their last two games to qualify, it will be their poorest season in the Champions League so far.

He added: "None of the games have been the real City and I guess that if we don't turn it around in these last two games you would consider it to be the worst Champions League campaign the club has had."

Aguero also insisted manager Manuel Pellegrini should not shoulder all the blame for their European failures.

He explained: "It's easy for everyone to suddenly decide it's the man at the helm who is to blame, but I would say in situations like this, when we haven't played well as a group, we are all in it together.

"It is not just the manager, and not just the players -- we are all to blame as a group and we need to work our way out of this situation as a group."

Pellegrini has described Aguero as one of the world's top three players but the striker, who has scored 12 goals so far this season, admitted he is unlikely to win the Ballon d'Or unless City do better in Europe.

He said: "Maybe I need to put in some good performances in the Champions League in order to be considered seriously to win that award -- or maybe score 70 goals in the Premier League.

"If we do get knocked out and don't do well in these next two Champions League games, the only way I'm going to win it is by scoring 70 goals this season!"
