Manchester City's Frank Lampard ruled out of CSKA Moscow trip

Frank Lampard will miss Manchester City's Champions League game against CSKA Moscow because of a thigh injury.

The 36-year-old, who scored in the 2008 Champions League final in Moscow, has been sent for scans after he was stretchered off in the first half of City's 4-1 win over Tottenham on Saturday.

Lampard, who was named his new club's Player of the Month for September and who captained Chelsea when they won the 2012 Champions League, has scored four goals since joining on loan from New York City FC.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini said in his news conference after the Spurs game: "Frank has a muscle injury. We will see on Sunday after the scan but, for the moment, he will not travel to Russia."

Pellegrini has the option of bringing in Yaya Toure or Fernandinho, both of whom he used as substitutes on Saturday.

City will also be without midfielder Samir Nasri, who is recovering after groin surgery and should return to first-team training later in the week.

They have only taken one point from their first two Champions League games after a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich and a 1-1 draw with Roma.
