Pellegrini disappointed with Roma draw (1:27)

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini was disappointed his team could only draw their Champions League game against Roma on Tuesday. (1:27)

Stevan Jovetic says it would be a mistake for Manchester City to believe they cannot win the Champions League.

The Premier League champions have never reached the last 16 of Europe's major club competition and have only taken one point from their opening two games this season.

But striker Jovetic, 24, thinks they have the ability to triumph on the continent and urged them to think they can beat Europe's best.

"Why not?" he told FourFourTwo. "We have a strong team; a big roster of players of equal quality. We have to think positively. I think it would be wrong if we thought we could not win the trophy.

"Our aim is to go as far as possible. Last year we reached the round of 16 and went out to Barcelona. Perhaps this year we will get an easier opponent at that stage and after that anything can happen."

Jovetic made his belated first Champions League appearance for Manuel Pellegrini's side as a substitute in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Roma.

"I was disappointed that I didn't play in the Champions League [last season]," he added. "One of the reasons for signing with a big club was having the chance to play in the Champions League. But I didn't play a single minute because I was injured."

The Montenegro international, who joined from Fiorentina in July 2013, was absent so often that a Twitter campaign, #WheresJovetic, began -- but the striker said he was amused by doctored pictures of him in unlikely situations.

"I wasn't annoyed," he said. "I found it funny. Those who did it were very creative. Those guys obviously had a lot of free time."
