Manuel Pellegrini keen to keep Alvaro Negredo at Man City

MANCHESTER -- Manuel Pellegrini has told Alvaro Negredo's Spanish suitors that he wants to keep the forward at the Etihad Stadium and insisted Real Madrid have not yet made a bid for the 29-year-old.

Manchester City have received an offer for Negredo, who has also been linked with Atletico Madrid and Valencia, and although Pellegrini said there was interest in the former Sevilla striker, he said City have had no contact about him in August.

Negredo is sidelined at the moment because of a metatarsal injury but Pellegrini said he has a future in Manchester.

He told a news conference: "At this moment Alvaro is injured but part of our squad. We don't want to sell him. We want him to stay with us."

"We are not receiving any offers for any players. At this moment he is part of our squad and we are not trying to sell him and nobody has given an important offer. Maybe one month ago some Spanish clubs had an interest in him but that was one month ago."

Negredo scored 23 goals in his debut campaign in England, but failed to find the net after January, when he lost his place in the team to Edin Dzeko, while Stevan Jovetic and Sergio Aguero have started this season in goalscoring form.

But Pellegrini rejected suggestions the Spain international is now his fourth-choice forward, adding: "Last year he did very well and then had an injury with his shoulder and after that he didn't play so well but he's always an important player for us."

The City manager also believes that Yaya Toure will be willing to go to Moscow, where he was racially abused by CSKA supporters in last season's Champions League, for October's group game.

He said: "He does not have a problem to go to Moscow. At that moment he said what he thinks about it and every one of us supports him because I don't think those things can happen on a football pitch. This year Yaya doesn't have a problem."
