Edin Dzeko to sign new Man City deal

Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Edin Dzeko will sign a new contract with Manchester City.

The Premier League champions still have to finalise the agreement with the Bosnia-Herzegovina international, but manager Pellegrini is confident he will become the sixth player to agree to extend his deal at the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Aguero all signed five-year deals last week, while Samir Nasri and Aleksandar Kolarov had already committed their futures to the club.

And Pellegrini said in a news conference after his side beat Newcastle 2-0: "I don't think it's 100 percent finished but, yes, he will renew his contract. He's a very important player for us.

"It's very important that we have four top strikers because we have so many games in four competitions."

Dzeko enjoyed his most prolific season for City last year, scoring 26 goals, including four in the last three games as Pellegrini's team edged a tight title race involving Liverpool and Chelsea.

And the Chilean added: "I think that Edin finished last season playing very well."

Dzeko began the current campaign with an assist for City's first league goal, with his backheeled flick setting up Silva to score at St James' Park.

Pellegrini said: "For me, he was one of the best players of the game, not only because he participated in the first goal, [but] because he worked the whole game.

"He won a lot of aerial duels, he supported the ball, it was a very complete game, but I repeat, I think that Edin finished last season playing the same way as he's started now."
