Coach Frank Bernhardt seeks Malaysia U22 goals against Bahrain

Frank Bernhardt will be looking for improved attack from his players on Friday after the Malaysia under-22 side held their Bahrain counterparts to a goalless draw in a friendly at Shah Alam Stadium in Tuesday's first game between the nations.

"It was a good performance, and we did everything but score. That has to change when we play them again," said the German.

Penang attackers S. Kumaahran and Jafri Firdaus Chew had the brightest openings for Malaysia on Tuesday, but couldn't convert as the hosts settled for a draw against the Gulf nation.

Bernhardt, who has been given the task of trying to guide Malaysia to the SEA Games football gold medal on home soil in 2017, is expected to make a few changes ahead of the second game.

"I had Safawi Rasid and Adam Nor Azlin on for the closing stages, and I was happy with what I saw from them. I do not have much time with some of these players, but I will make do with the resources I have," he added.

The 47-year-old will not have the services of the duo on Friday, along with Australian-born Matthew Davies, who will link up with the senior side, ahead of the friendly against Indonesia in Solo on Sept. 6.

This year, Bernhardt guided the Malaysians at the Nations Cup final where they lost 2-1 to Thailand in the inaugural competition. He then took his charges for a friendly tour of Japan in June, where they drew 3-3 with Machida Zelvia, before suffering a 1-0 loss to Shonan Bellmare.
