Malaysian junior football joins forces with Tony Fernandes' QPR

Malaysian-owned Queens Park Rangers have agreed to a partnership with Malaysia's National Football Development Programme (NFDP), in a move aimed at stimulating youth development.

The English Championship club, with Malaysian Tony Fernandes as their majority owner, will provide financial, technical and developmental assistance to the government-backed NFDP, according to The Star.

The tie-up was announced before Wednesday night's match between QPR and Blackburn Rovers, which ended in a 2-2 draw at Loftus Road.

The NFDP under-13 side, who are on a British tour, were introduced to the crowd in west London.

At the announcement, were QPR head of football operations, Les Ferdinand -- a former England international who scored 80 league goals in eight seasons with the club - and NFDP project director Lim Teong Kim.

Since Fernandes became majority shareholder in 2011, QPR have suffered two relegations from the Premier League, most recently last season when they finished rock bottom on just 30 points.

They toured Malaysia in 2012 under former head coach Mark Hughes.
