Extreme weather forecast postpones Colorado Rapids match against Seattle Sounders

Forecasts for extreme weather in the Denver area forced the postponement of Wednesday night's MLS match between the Seattle Sounders and host Colorado Rapids.

A storm moving through the area could bring 2 to 6 inches of snow and produce wind gusts up to 65 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The game at Dick's Sporting Goods Park was rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7, at 9 p.m. ET.

The Rapids have hosted games in the snow before, including the 2019 season opener when they played the coldest match in league history vs. the Portland Timbers. The temperature at kickoff for that March 2 game was 18 degrees. It ended in a 3-3 draw.

Both clubs will return to action Saturday, with Seattle hosting Toronto FC and Colorado at home against D.C. United.
