Mexico's Dos Santos brothers both injured as World Cup squad reveal looms

Both Giovani dos Santos and Jonathan dos Santos are dealing with injuries with the LA Galaxy, just days before Mexico announces its preliminary World Cup squad.

Giovani dos Santos missed the Galaxy's trip to Dallas on Saturday after picking up a knock in training, while his younger brother Jonathan limped out of LA's 4-1 defeat early in the second half.

Galaxy boss Sigi Schmid had some positive news on Jonathan dos Santos after the game, saying the midfielder only had a charley horse and should not miss a significant amount of time.

Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio is scheduled to announce El Tri's preliminary team on Monday. A 35-player list must be handed to FIFA by June 14, but Mexico appears set to only announce those players that will be joining up in training camp, which starts on Monday outside Mexico City.

Jonathan dos Santos' place in Mexico's midfield had appeared secure, but whether Giovani will be included has been one of the biggest question marks ahead of the announcement.

Both brothers have already dealt with hamstring injuries early in the MLS season. They both missed Mexico's friendlies in March against Iceland and Croatia.

Jonathan dos Santos also recently returned from a calf strain that kept him out of Galaxy games in April.

Galaxy striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic said he was eager to get the Dos Santos brothers back into action as LA lost their fourth consecutive games.

"They are quality players," Ibrahimovic said. "We need every quality player we have, we are in need of the best players so you miss them, you miss a lot. Hopefully it's nothing bad with Jonathan."
