Vanderbilt University has opted against the idea of playing football at a proposed off-campus site that it would have shared with a potential Major League Soccer expansion team.
School officials announced Wednesday that "we are not moving Vanderbilt football off campus."
The Commodores play their home games at Vanderbilt Stadium, a 40,550-seat facility on campus.
As Nashville is seeking an MLS expansion franchise, Vanderbilt athletic director David Williams said in August he'd be interested in exploring the possibility of playing some football and soccer games at the potential MLS team's proposed new stadium.
School officials said on Wednesday they will continue to support Nashville's MLS bid and are "exploring the opportunity" to lease the proposed new soccer field for one or two Vanderbilt events per year.
The MLS club's prospective ownership group unveiled preliminary designs last month for a new 30,000-seat stadium to be built at the Fairgrounds Nashville site in the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood.
Williams previously said the capacity would need to be able expand to 33,000-35,000 to accommodate college football.
Nashville is one of 12 locations vying to win an expansion franchise from MLS, which plans to announce two new teams this year with another two to follow.
