Galaxy win with with Gio dos Santos golazo; Diego Fagundez rallies Revs

Giovani dos Santos scored from a remarkable volley and a late own goal helped the LA Galaxy beat Minnesota United 2-1 on Sunday.

The Mexico international met Romain Alessandrini's short lob into the box with a flying back-heeled effort that looped over Bobby Shuttleworth to open the scoring in the 38th minute.

Minnesota got back level in the second half from a set piece. Sam Cronin leapt highest to head the ball into the box, and Christian Ramirez read the play well to score the equalizer.

But Ramirez then played a part in the Galaxy restoring their lead, as Alessandrini's 85th-minute free kick flew past a number of headers and redirected in off the Minnesota man's leg.

It marked the second straight week that Ramirez scored an own goal and Minneota lost by a single tally. The Galaxy remained unbeaten over their last four matches.

David Villa scored twice as New York City FC won 3-0 to become the first team to beat Orlando City in its new stadium.

Villa's 14th-minute penalty opened the scoring after Kaka was whistled for handling the ball in the box, and Rodney Wallace made it 2-0 in the 35th minute when he slotted in a cross from Ethan White.

Orlando had a chance to get back into the game when Ben Sweat fouled Scott Sutter in the box, but Cyle Larin -- given a chance to take a penalty over usual taker Kaka -- could only strike the outside of the post.

Villa then got his second of the night in the 82nd minute, beating the offside trap to receive a lobbed pass from Maxi Moralez before rounding Orlando keeper Joe Bendik to score.

Orlando opened the season with five straight home wins, but have now gone two without a win after a draw with Sporting Kansas City on May 13.

Diego Fagundez scored twice to help the New England Revolution come from behind to beat Columbus Crew SC.

Columbus had taken the lead in the 20th minute with a superb strike on the half-volley from Ola Kamara, who nearly doubled the advantage two minutes but could not finish off a cross from Kekuta Manneh with the net open.

And just two minutes after his miss, Fagundez equalized by tapping home a Kei Kamara cross, before putting the hosts ahead 10 minutes later following a run into the box.

A 22-year-old homegrown player, Fagundez ran onto a free ball on the left flank, sped up and pushed home the finish into the far corner in the 34th minute to cap the scoring.

The Revolution have back-to-back wins for the first time this season after a five-match winless streak, though Andrew Farrell was sent off for a studs-up challenge on Waylon Francis in the third minute of stoppage time.
