Villarreal's Jonathan dos Santos wouldn't rule out LA Galaxy - father

Reported LA Galaxy target Jonathan dos Santos could leave Villarreal this summer, according to his father Zizinho.

"I know there is interest from other teams but until the season is over, I will not sit down and speak with Villarreal," Zizinho told El Periodico Mediterrraneo.

The Mexico international has been linked with the Galaxy since January.

However, Dos Santos told reporters on Thursday that he is happy at Villarreal.

"I never imagined that I would have played three seasons at winger, but any football player who wants to learn must be ready to play a different position and that it what I have done despite the fact that there is more competition within the club on the wing with players such as Roberto Soriano, Samu Castillejo and Denis Cheryshev," Dos Santos said.

His older brother, Giovanni dos Santos, plays for the Major League Soccer team and recently said he was trying to convince his brother Jonathan to follow in his footsteps to California.

The two brothers played together at Villarreal in the 2014-15 campaign before Giovanni made the switch to the Galaxy in the summer of 2015.

Jonathan struggled for playing time in five seasons with Barcelona but has been a key player for the Yellow Submarine, who signed him in the summer of 2014.

No Villarreal player has played more games this season than the 27-year-old midfielder, who has made 44 appearances in all competitions -- 32 in La Liga, eight in the Europa League and four in the Copa del Rey.

Jonathan is under contract with Villarreal until June 2019. He said he is very happy there and added that the club have given him a "continuity" he didn't have while at Barcelona.

"I am fine here and I am not thinking about [anywhere else for my] future because I feel important here and I am playing. It is true that in football one never knows what will happen. I don't know anything about next year."

Zizinho however, was coy: "Anything can happen in the future. [Alexandre] Pato is an example. He was very happy at the club [Villarreal], just as Jonathan is, but if an offer comes along that convinces all of us, then..."

Villarreal sold Brazilian striker Pato to Chinese Super League Tianjin Quanjian for a reported €18 million ($19.3 million) during the winter transfer window after scoring six goals in 24 appearances for the La Liga side this season.

Villarreal, coached by Fran Escriba, are fifth in La Liga with two games remaining and host Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday.
