2017 MLS All-Star Game to be played at Soldier Field in Chicago

The 2017 MLS All-Star Game is headed to the city of Chicago, the league announced on Tuesday, with the match to be held at Soldier Field on Aug. 2.

Veljko Paunovic, the head coach of the Chicago Fire, will manage the All-Star team, with an opponent to be announced at a later date.

The event returns to the Chicago area for the first time since 2006, when the All-Stars beat Chelsea 1-0 at the Fire's Toyota Park.

MLS commissioner Don Garber was joined by Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel in making the announcement at the home of the NFL's Chicago Bears.

Chicago will host nearly a week of events surrounding the game, including concerts, player appearances, and the Homegrown Game featuring young players.
