Jamison Olave leaves MLS side Real Salt Lake with future unclear

Jamison Olave will follow Javier Morales' footsteps and leave Major League Soccer side Real Salt Lake.

Olave, 35, has been a loyal servant of the club for seven years since moving to the MLS in 2008 from Colombia.

He was a key figure in the team's 2009 MLS Cup title triumph and was named MLS defender of the year in 2010. His stature in the MLS was confirmed when he was named in the MLS Best XI for two consecutive years in 2010 and 2011.

Olave did leave the club for the New York Red Bulls in 2013 and 2014, but returned to RSL for the past two seasons. He made 17 appearances in the regular season this term, but injuries and suspension saw him finish the season without featuring in 20 games or more for the first time in his career.

"We are very thankful for Olave's years of excellent service to RSL, and we look forward to either supporting him in the continuation of his playing career elsewhere or helping him with a possible shift to a non-playing role in our ever-growing and expanding organization," an RSL spokesperson said.

After scoring 17 goals in 216 regular-season games and 19 playoff appearances, it remains unclear what the Colombian has planned although he is eligible for MLS free agency.
