Bradley Wright-Phillips sets Red Bulls' MLS goals record in win over Impact

Bradley Wright-Phillips became the New York Red Bulls' all-time leading scorer in MLS with two goals in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Montreal Impact.

Montreal took the lead in the 22nd minute when Matteo Mancosu turned Red Bulls defender Ronald Zubar and passed for Ignacio Piatti to tap home.

But the lead lasted less than a minute as Sacha Kljestan found Wright-Phillips with a through ball, and the ball trickled over the line after Impact defenders converged on the Red Bulls striker.

Wright-Phillips then passed Juan Pablo Angel with his 59th MLS regular-season goal for the club with his second on the night, a header from a Sean Davis' cross four minutes before the break.

Davis then scored himself within 20 seconds of the start of the second half, and the game was out of reach for Montreal when three minutes later Ambroise Oyongo was sent off for a hard challenge on Davis.

The Red Bulls stayed in second place in the East behind NYCFC, while Montreal fell to fifth.

Chris Pontius had a goal and an assist in the second half to help the Philadelphia Union beat the New England Revolution 4-0.

C.J. Sapong started the scoring in the second minute. Fabinho beat three defenders down the left sideline, sent a cross in front of goal and Sapong flicked it home with the outside of his foot.

Pontius scored his 10th goal of the season in the 51st minute. After two failed clearances by the Revolution, Pontius was first to a loose ball and rolled it inside the far post.

Three minutes later, Pontius redirected a corner across goal and Richie Marquez headed it home, while Roland Alberg scored from distance in the 93rd minute after a give-and-go with Charlie Davies.

Alejandro Bedoya made his debut for Philadelphia, which snapped a four-game winless stretch and won on the road for the first time in 10 matches.

Steve Birnbaum and Luciano Acosta scored first-half goals and D.C. United beat the Portland Timbers 2-0 at sweltering RFK Stadium.

Birnbaum's second goal of the season put D.C. on the board in the seventh minute. Bobby Boswell reached Lloyd Sam's corner and headed it to the foot of Birnbaum inside the box for his second goal in a week.

Acosta took a short chip from Patrick Mullins in tight quarters, got the ball to his feet and dinked it over sliding keeper Jake Gleeson in the 29th minute.

Winless in its previous six games, D.C. vaulted over New England and Orlando City into playoff position in the Eastern Conference.

Portland holds the final qualification spot in the Western Conference, a point up on San Jose, which has two games in hand.

Ethan Finlay scored in the 80th and 95th minutes to help Columbus Crew SC draw with New York City FC 3-3.

Frank Lampard opened the scoring for NYCFC in the 41st minute with his ninth goal in 10 games, but Justin Meram tied it in the 49th, heading in Waylon Francis' cross.

Finlay gave Crew SC a 2-1 lead with a penalty in the 80th minute. Three minutes later, David Villa levelled the score after settling Andrea Pirlo's chip with his right foot and scoring with his left.

Villa gave NYCFC a 3-2 lead in the 92nd minute, converting a penalty for his second goal of the game and  15th of the season.

But Columbus, which set an MLS record with its sixth straight draw at home, answered three minutes later when Finlay sent a loose ball into the back of the net.

Maximiliano Urruti's goal in the 76th minute capped a flurry of four goals in 10 minutes and allowed FC Dallas to earn a 2-2 draw with Sporting Kansas City on Saturday night that pushed its unbeaten home streak to 18 games.

Tesho Akindele opened the scoring for Dallas with his sixth goal in the 66th minute, just five minutes after coming on. He headed the ball on a cross from Atiba Harris that seemed to just skim the head of a leaping defender before getting to Akindele.

Sporting KC took the lead when Dom Dwyer scored goals five minutes apart. The first, in the 68th minute, came after a hard feed inside from Brad Davis, with Dwyer going top shelf over keeper Chris Seitz. The second came when he pounced on a loose ball in the box and sent a left footed shot into the far corner for his 12th goal of the season.

On Dallas' equalizer, Maynor Figueroa sent a ball from the left side to the goal that Sporting keeper Alex Kann declined to play. It went off the post out front and Urruti, whose back was to the net, beat Kann with a bicycle kick for his seventh goal.

FC Dallas remained in first place in the Western Conference. Sporting KC is fifth, now four points above the red line.

The LA Galaxy and the Colorado Rapids shared the points in a 1-1 draw at the StubHub Center.

Shkelzen Gashi help the Rapids take the lead in the 51st minute, blasting the ball past LA goalkeeper Brian Rowe after some fine build-up play from Marlon Hairston.

The hosts restored parity 10 minutes, however, after Steven Gerrard's corner kick was headed in by Daniel Steres.

Due to bad weather, the Houston Dynamo vs. Toronto FC match has been postponed until Sunday evening at 8:15 p.m. CDT.
