Sporting Kansas City acquired forward Cameron Porter from the Montreal Impact in a trade for defender Amadou Dia on Tuesday.
Porter became a fan-favorite in Montreal when he scored a stoppage-time goal to beat Pachuca in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals in just his second professional game.
But Porter tore his ACL in just his second MLS game in March 2015 and has yet to play since. And with the addition Matteo Mancosu, the Impact sent him on to Kansas City.
"Cameron is a player who we feel has a lot of upside," SKC manager Peter Vermes said in a statement. "He can play multiple positions in the attack and it will be good to have another young player to develop.
"We also want to thank Amadou for his contributions to our club and we wish him the best in Montreal."
Dia, a left-back, made 32 appearances for SKC over the past two seasons, but fell on the depth chart this year after the club signed Ever Alvarado last month.
"We took this decision in order to improve our depth at the full-back position," Montreal technical director Adam Braz said in a statement. "Amadou is a young player that has already gained a good amount of experience in the last year and a half and will provide us with some depth for the second half of the season."
Braz said the trade will allow Porter to earn some more playing time.
"With the number of strikers on our roster, it would have been difficult for Cameron to break through and gain significant minutes," he said. "This provides him the opportunity to go somewhere and hopefully have a chance to gain some minutes.
"We want to thank Cameron for his services on and off the field and wish him the best of luck moving forward."
The trade was only the second in MLS to involve only players since the end of last season, following FC Dallas and Vancouver swapping Mauro Rosales for Blas Perez in February.
