Sporting KC were able to grab three points at home after a few Josh Saunders gaffes in the net. (3:55)

Jimmy Medranda scored his first-career MLS goal and Sporting Kansas City extended its unbeaten streak to five games with a 3-1 win over New York City FC on Sunday night.

Medranda blasted a left-footer, from well outside the box, past Josh Saunders into the back of the net to give Sporting (8-8-4) a 2-1 lead in the 16th minute.

Benny Feilhaber's tap-in goal, off the back of Saunders, opened the scoring in the eighth.

Frank Lampard tied it in the 14th minute, rolling a right-footer -- off the feed from Ronald Matarrita -- just inside the near post.

Feilhaber flicked the ball into the area and Ike Opara outdueled defender Frederic Brillant at the top of the six-yard box to slip the ball into the net in the 51st.

Feilhaber has three goals and two assists in the last four matches.

NYCFC (8-6-6), the points leader in the Eastern Conference, had its four-game winning streak snapped.

Jake Gleeson had four saves, including a deflection in stoppage time, to help the Portland Timbers hold on for a 0-0 draw with the New York Red Bulls on Sunday night and extend their unbeaten streak to seven games.

It was Gleeson's second consecutive shutout.

Early in injury time, New York's Bradley Wright-Phillips dropped a pass at the top of the box to Felipe Martins who blasted a right footer, but Gleeson got just enough to roll the ball over the crossbar and preserved the clean sheet.

The Red Bulls had chances, particularly in the second half, that were either thwarted by Gleeson or simply missed.

Gleeson stopped a header by Sacha Kljestan in the 43rd minute, Mike Grella's left-footed volley sailed high in the 57th and Gleeson had a sliding save on a point-blank shot by Felipe about 20 minutes later.

Portland (6-6-7), which hasn't lost since May 15, is winless on the road this season.
