Jared Jeffrey rescues point for D.C. United, Chicago Fire beat San Jose

Jared Jeffrey scored in stoppage time as D.C. United drew 1-1 with Real Salt Lake on Friday night.

Goalkeeper Bill Hamid had made a crucial save from Olmes Garcia just two minutes earlier with the RSL player through on goal. And it was made to pay as Fabian Espindola's corner kick was headed in by an unmarked Jeffrey to snatch a point for DC United.

D.C. United (5-6-6) is still winless at Rice-Eccles Stadium since its first trip to Utah in 2005.

Juan Manuel Martinez scored in the 57th minute for Real Salt Lake (8-5-4). He received a pass from Yura Movsisyan, dribbled between two defenders and chipped Hamid.

Hamid saved two close-range shots in the 16th minute, denied Movsisyan's near-post attempt in the 47th and made himself big against Joao Plata in the 61st.

John Goossens scored his first MLS goal in the 58th minute and the Chicago Fire beat the San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 on Friday night.

San Jose failed to clear a cross after two headers and Goossens hammered a loose ball from distance.

Chicago won for the first time since May 21, and all three of its victories have been by a score of 1-0. San Jose had its winless stretch extended to six games.

Chicago goalkeeper Sean Johnson made a kick save of Alberto Quintero's close-range shot in the 60th minute. He needed just two saves to record his second shutout of the season.

Neither team has won on the road in the series since 2010. Chicago had its MLS-record road winless run extended to 32 games in its last match.

San Jose's five wins this season have all come at home.
