The San Jose Earthquakes have signed star forward Chris Wondolowski to a new two-year contract with an option for a third year, the club announced on Friday.
Wondolowski, 33, has scored 116 regular season goals in 240 appearances during his career, good for fourth all-time in Major League Soccer. He has scored 112 of those with San Jose, making him the club's all-time leading scorer.
He won the Golden Boot, awarded to the league's top scorer in 2010 and 2012, and was also the league's MVP in 2012. He has been named to the MLS Best XI three times and is a three-time MLS All-Star.
"Signing a new contract means the world to me. It's a huge honor," said Wondolowski. "I love this club and I want to be a part of it. I'm excited for the future and where we're headed."
Wondolowski was drafted out of Chico State with the 41st overall pick in the 2005 Supplemental Draft, and then followed the team to Houston after his rookie season when the Quakes were relocated. He won two MLS Cups with the Dynamo while scoring four goals in 37 appearances.
Wondolowski returned to San Jose in 2009 when he was acquired in a trade in exchange for forward Cam Weaver.
"He's meant everything to this team," said Earthquakes head coach Dominic Kinnear. "I think he's been a great leader on the field and a great citizen off of it. The accomplishments he has made as a San Jose Earthquake have been nothing short of incredible and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy."
At international level, Wondolowski has scored 10 goals in 31 appearances for the U.S. national team, claimed a share of the Golden Boot at the 2013 Gold Cup, and was part of the 2014 World Cup squad.
