Portland Timbers receive 'classy' ring to commemorate 2015 MLS Cup win

Caleb Porter and his Portland Timbers team are looking ahead to 2016, but they recently received a nice reminder of what was accomplished in 2015: championship rings.

Portland pulled of a historic first title win for the franchise when the Timbers beat Columbus Crew SC 2-1 in December, 2015, in the MLS Cup finals.

Along with the Championship banner in Providence Park, the Portland Timbers website revealed that owner Merritt Paulson, GM and president of soccer Gavin Wilkinson, Timbers head coach Caleb Porter and president of business operations Mike Golub wanted something else to commemorate the achievement.

Wilkinson said: "The championship rings not only celebrate the achievement of the club winning its first MLS Cup but also the values of the team, with their symbolic design details."

Some of those details seen above include 91 diamonds on the face of the ring, the Timbers' primary logo, the double-sided axe set against the background of a custom-cut green stone and on the inside of the ring the date of the historic win, "12.6.15" along with the words "History Made."

Porter sounded thrilled with the final outcome, which he said was meant to represent the championship win the right way and in "a classy way."

"Merritt [Paulson] was really good about not cutting corners and investing in a really nice ring that will cement the championship and be something that we -- all of us -- can have forever to remind us what we did," Porter said.

"There's a little bit of everything. Ultimately, I think it really turned out nice."
