Real Salt Lake fights back to beat Sounders, Impact crush Red Bulls

Jamison Olave's headed goal in the 86th minute gave Real Salt Lake a win over the Seattle Sounders 2-1 on Saturday.

Osvaldo Alonso opened the scoring in the 28th minute for Seattle. Joevin Jones crossed it into the box, Nelson Valdez forced a lunging save with a glancing touch and Nick Rimando's punch fell to Alonso at the far post.

Real Salt Lake's Sunny Obayan separated from Clint Dempsey and found the upper right corner of the goal to level the score in the 43rd minute.

Olave out-jumped backup goalkeeper Tyler Miller, who started in place of the injured Stefan Frei, for the game-winner four minutes from time. Joao Plata sent a free kick wide of the goal, Juan Manuel Martinez tracked it down at the goal line and one-touched a cross in front of goal to find Olave's head.

Real Salt Lake has won five straight home games dating back to 2011 against the Sounders, who have now lost their first two games of the season.

Marco Pappa scored in the 95th and final minute to give the Colorado Rapids a 1-0 victory over the LA Galaxy on Saturday night in their home opener.

Colorado's Kevin Doyle sent a high-arching chip pass into the area and Galaxy defender Daniel Steres attempted the clear it away. But Steres' errant header went to the left side of the box and Pappa picked it clean with a left-footed volley that glanced under the crossbar.

Pappa entered the game as a substitute for Dominique Badji in 67th minute. He was traded from the Seattle Sounders during the offseason and was making his home debut for the Rapids.

Goalkeeper Brian Rowe kept the Galaxy in the game with five of his seven saves coming in the second half.

Ignacio Piatti scored his third goal of the season to help the Montreal Impact beat the New York Red Bulls 3-0 in their home opener at Olympic Stadium.

Dominic Oduro opened the scoring for Montreal in the 58th minute. Piatti scored in the 71st, and Anthony Jackson-Hamel added a goal in stoppage time.

Playing without star striker Didier Drogba while on the artificial turf of Olympic Stadium, the Impact have responded by winning their first two games.

Meanwhile, the Red Bulls have now dropped their first two games to open the season and lost to Montreal for the first time since March 2013.

Chris Pontius scored twice as the Philadelphia Union picked up a 2-1 win on the road at Columbus Crew SC.

The Union found the breakthrough on the stroke of halftime as Pontius scored following a long throw-in into the box. His second goal came in the 71st minute with a left-footed shot that crept inside the near post.

Crew SC attempted to rally and got a goal back through Kei Kamara's header in the 87th minute, but last season's MLS Cup finalists lost their second game to start the season.

Dom Dwyer scored two goals, including a rocket from distance, as Sporting Kansas City won its second straight game to start the season, 2-1 over the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Only five minutes in, Dwyer unleashed a shot from 25 yards that flew past the reach of Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted.

And Dwyer doubled SKC's advantage four minutes before halftime, tapping in a perfect cross from Chance Myers.

The Whitecaps' Jordan Smith was sent off with a straight red card just before the break, and although the visitors got a goal back through a Pedro Morales penalty, they also lost their second straight game.

The Houston Dynamo dominated FC Dallas from the start to win the first Texas derby of the season 5-0.

David Horst opened the onslaught in the sixth minute with a header from close range and it was 2-0 seven minutes later after Dallas defender Matt Hedges' attempt at a back pass comically rolled into the net.

Ricardo Clark soon made it 3-0 with a blast from the edge of the box before Andrew Wenger had Houston four goals up within half an hour.

Will Bruin tapped home from close range in the 85th minute to complete the rout.

Lee Nguyen's right-footed shot hit the crossbar in the 55th minute and the New England Revolution and D.C. United played to a scoreless draw on Saturday.

Kelyn Rowe had an opening in the 93rd minute to put the Revolution on top, but his right-footed shot from near the middle of the box missed wide left. The Revolution have been shut out in their past three home openers.

United had its best late scoring chance when Bobby Boswell headed down Julian Buescher's corner in the 85th minute. It skidded through to the far side of the box where Nick DeLeon ripped it wide of the post.

The Revolution's Bobby Shuttleworth and United's Travis Worra earned shutouts with three saves each. Worra made his first career start in place of injured Bill Hamid.

New England's Charlie Davies left the game in the first half with an undisclosed injury.
