Montreal Impact acquires midfielder Harry Shipp from Chicago Fire

The Montreal Impact have acquired midfielder Harry Shipp from the Chicago Fire in a trade for general and targeted allocation money, according to a statement on the club's website.

Shipp, 24, is an Illinois native and was signed as a homegrown player for Chicago on Jan. 9, 2014, after a successful college career at Notre Dame.

Chicago general manager Nelson Rodriguez admitted it was hard to part ways with Shipp, but said it was best for both club and player.

"Harry is a homegrown player and an obvious fan-favorite, which makes this trade more emotional than most," Rodriguez said in a statement. "However, we believe this trade will prove to be beneficial for our club and for Harry's career."

Shipp made 66 appearances for Chicago during his two-year career with the club, scoring 10 goals and dishing out 14 assists.

A total of 15 members of the 2015 Fire squad have now moved on, as new coach Veljko Paunovic begins to reshape the team.

Chicago was the worst team in Major League Soccer in 2015, totalling just 30 points over the course of its 34-game season.
