LA Galaxy midfielder Gyasi Zardes' impressive 2015 season for club and country has raised his profile on the international stage, but his coach and club president maintain he won't be leaving the team.
Zardes, who was born in Los Angeles and came up through the Galaxy academy, is coming off a breakout year in which he scored nine goals in 33 games for LA and netted three times in 19 appearances for the U.S. national team.
Despite rumoured interest from English club Reading and Belgium's Genk, coach Bruce Arena and president Chris Klein say Zardes will still be with the club in 2016.
"We fully anticipate having Gyasi back with the Galaxy," Arena recently told LA Galaxy Insider.
Klein echoed those sentiments, saying: "Gyasi is a kid that grew up in our backyard. He came through our academy and succeeded for our club, and now he's succeeding for the national team. We're very proud of that.
"I think the most exciting thing is to look at Gyasi and to see the type of person that he is and to understand that he continues to work hard and has a long way to go.
"That's exciting for our club, that's exciting for our fans, and it's exciting for Gyasi. We want to continue to see him score a lot of goals in a Galaxy shirt."
The Galaxy recently let two of the team's staples get away, with Omar Gonzalez making a move to Pachuca and Juninho joining his former teammate in Liga MX with Tijuana.
However, Zardes, who has two years left on his Galaxy contract, maintained he's committed to the club and has no plans of making a move.
"There's so many rumors out there," Zardes said in November. "There's so many other people out there [saying], 'Hey, this team is interested in you,' and I'm just, like, that's not my focus.
"I'm an LA Galaxy player and this is my primary focus and this is my job, this is my team, these are my coaches, and today -- right now, this moment -- is the only moment that matters."
