Sounders salvage draw with Galaxy as LA and FC Dallas clinch playoff berths

Chad Barrett scored in the third minute of stoppage time to give the Seattle Sounders a 1-1 draw with the LA Galaxy on Sunday night.

Robbie Keane opened the scoring in the 36th minute when he converted a Seattle defensive giveaway into a goal. Sounders left-back Zach Scott sent the ball toward Gonzalo Pineda at the top of the box, but he left it short, and Pineda couldn't reach it.

Keane did, running onto the errant pass, taking it to the top of the penalty spot, and firing into the back right center for his 17th goal of the year.

Marco Pappa started the equalizing play with a corner kick from the right side. Sounders defender Brad Evans flicked it off his head across the goal, and Barrett, who came on in the 85th minute, ran onto the ball and volleyed it into the net from two yards away for his fifth goal of the year.

The Sounders extended their unbeaten streak to six games, while the Galaxy clinched a playoff spot and climbed into a Supporters Shield tie with the New York Red Bulls, who have two games in hand.

David Texeira scored twice, and Kellyn Acosta added a third second-half goal and FC Dallas beat the Houston Dynamo 4-1 on Sunday to become the first Western Conference team to clinch a playoff spot.

Texeira put Dallas ahead when he fired a rocket from 20 yards that caromed off the crossbar in the 51st minute. Kellyn Acosta one-timed a shot off the crossbar two minutes later, and Texeira added an insurance goal in the third minute of stoppage time.

Coming off back-to-back losses on the road, including a 3-2 loss to the L.A. Galaxy, FC Dallas beat the Dynamo for the fifth consecutive time and swept all three meetings this season.

Ricardo Clark scored from 15 yards out to pull Houston even after Mauro Diaz scored on a penalty to give Dallas the early lead.

Joao Plata and Luke Mulholland scored 10 minutes apart in the first half and Real Salt Lake beat Colorado 2-1 to eliminate the Rapids from the playoff race.

The Rapids struck first, Kevin Doyle heading a long cross from Sean St. Ledger in the 16th minute from 15 yards out that found its way into the far corner.

RSL struck back in the 33rd minute when Plata bent a free kick over the Colorado wall and just under the crossbar.

Juan Manuel Martinez's shot in the 43rd minute was headed away by Colorado, but Mulholland headed the ball to his feet and one-timed a crisp shot from the top of the penalty area that found the far corner.

RSL is three points out of the final playoff spot with three games remaining.
