Sebastian Giovinco hits hat trick in Toronto FC win over Orlando City

Sebastian Giovinco scored three goals to take the MLS lead and break Toronto FC's single-season record, leading the Canadian team to a 4-1 victory over Orlando City on Wednesday night.

The 5-foot-4 Italian, known as the Atomic Ant, has 16 goals this season, one more than Columbus' Kei Kamara. Giovinco broke the Toronto season record of 15 set by Dwayne De Rosario in 2010.

With 10 assists, Giovinco has been directly involved in 26 of Toronto's 36 goals this season.

Collen Warner also scored for Toronto, while Luke Boden scored for expansion Orlando.

Lloyd Sam scored early in the second half as the New York Red Bulls tied the 10-man Montreal Impact 1-1.

Sam scored in the 52nd for New York , putting in Mike Grella's lobbed pass. The Red Bulls have a four-game unbeaten streak.

Dominic Oduro scored for Montreal, which lost star defender Laurent Ciman to a second yellow card in the 79th minute. Montreal is 6-1-1 in its last eight home games.

The match marked the return of Red Bulls coach Jesse Marsch, who guided Montreal in its MLS expansion season in 2012, as well as former Impact players Karl Ouimette and Felipe Martins. Felipe hit the post on a last-second free kick.
