DC United beat RSL on record day for goals; NYCFC lose in Lampard's debut

Perry Kitchen broke a 4-4 tie in the 79th minute and DC United beat Real Salt Lake 6-4.

The 10 goals fell one short of the MLS single-game record.

Kitchen's header, off of a long service from Taylor Kemp, beat Jeff Attinella for the difference-maker. Nick Deleon's left-footed blast from way outside provided insurance six minutes later.

The teams combined for seven goals in the second half, one short of the record for most goals in a half.

Real Salt Lake jumped ahead 2-0 on goals by Joao Plata and Kyle Beckerman, his first since returning from the U.S. national team. United halved its deficit before halftime on Chris Rolfe's first of the game. He added a penalty kick goal to tie it early in the second.

Frank Lampard was powerless to stop New York City FC slipping to a 3-2 home defeat to Montreal Impact on his Major League Soccer debut.

Former England and Chelsea midfielder Lampard made his long-overdue New York debut as a second-half substitute -- more than a year after initially signing for the club.

Lampard spent last season on loan at Manchester City and was then forced to wait even longer for his New York debut after suffering a calf strain last month.

The 37-year-old joined the fray at Yankee Stadium with New York trailing 2-1, ex-Spain hitman David Villa having just fired his 13th goal of the season from the penalty spot to halve Montreal's lead.

Dominic Oduro and Ignacio Piatti struck in the first half to hand the visitors a commanding lead at the break, with the likes of former Italy star Andrea Pirlo largely ineffective for New York.

Villa had the ball in the back of the net during a lacklustre first half, only for his effort to be chalked off for offside.

His 68th-minute penalty handed New York hope, only for Piatti to convert a spot-kick of his own with six minutes left on the clock.

Thomas McNamara still found time to hit back for New York, with Lampard lurking in the hope of a tap-in for a debut goal.

The opportunity did not present itself as New York cut the deficit back to one goal and the veteran was unable to conjure another chance as his new side slumped to defeat.

Lampard joined the action from the bench at the same time as another ex-West Ham star, Nigel Reo-Coker, who was signed by Montreal last year.

And in the event it was the former Aston Villa man who would be going home happy on Saturday night.

Alan Gordon scored in the 69th minute, Robbie Keane added a goal in stoppage time and the Los Angeles Galaxy ended a 15-match winless streak on the road with a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids.

Sebastian Lletget tied it in the 56th minute to start the Galaxy on their way to their first road win since a 4-3 decision at Colorado last Aug. 20.

Marcelo Sarvas scored his first goal for the Rapids, who had a three-game winning streak snapped, in the 12th minute against his former team. He beat goalie Donovan Ricketts to the ball, tapped it to his left and knocked it into a wide open goal.

Ricketts, acquired in a trade with Orlando City two days earlier, played in L.A. for three seasons and was named Goalkeeper of the Year in 2010.

Bradley Wright-Phillips scored the go-ahead goal off an assist from brother Shaun and the New York Red Bulls beat the Philadelphia Union 3-1 for their third straight win and fifth of in six games.

Sebastien Le Toux tied it for the Union in the 73rd minute. One minute later, Bradley Wright-Phillips put the Red Bulls back in front, finishing Shaun Wright-Phillips's cross with a right-footed stab.

Shaun Wright-Phillips made his MLS debut when he entered as substitute in the 61st minute.

Anatole Abang added a breakaway goal in stoppage-time for New York.

Sacha Kljestan opened the scoring for the Red Bulls, converting from the spot in the 66th minute.

Philadelphia's Tranquillo Barnetta entered as a substitute in the 64th minute and was only a minute into his MLS debut when he committed the penalty in the area, running into Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Pa-Modou Kah surpassed his MLS career goal total by scoring twice and the Vancouver Whitecaps beat the Seattle Sounders 3-0, spoiling the return of Clint Dempsey after more than a month away from the club.

Kah volleyed his first goal past goalkeeper Stefan Frei in the sixth minute off a scramble in the penalty area. He added a second in the opening moments of the second half, redirecting Cristian Techera's shot with a deft back-heel.

Kah entered the match with one career MLS goal in 57 games.

Pedro Morales added his fourth goal of the season in the 75th minute with a curling free kick.

The Whitecaps won their second straight and for the fifth time in eight matches, temporarily moving to the top of the Western Conference standings ahead of FC Dallas.

Seattle lost its fourth straight match and for the eighth time in 10 matches, continuing its tumble from the top of the Western Conference that coincided with Dempsey's suspension and duties with the U.S. national team in the Gold Cup. Seattle has been shutout in its past four matches, the longest scoreless streak in franchise history.

Cyle Larin scored twice to help Orlando City beat the Columbus Crew 5-2.

Columbus opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Justin Meram made a nice service in a crowded penalty area to Federico Higuain, who chipped it behind Tally Hall for his sixth of the season.

Orlando evened it in the 18th. Servando Carrasco found Corey Ashe down the left wing. Ashe fed Larin in the center of the box and the rookie tapped it in for his 10th of the season.

Darwin Ceren gave Orlando a 2-1 lead in the 38th minute. His first attempt from the right side of the penalty area was knocked down, but he followed up with a strong right foot.

Larin, Aurelien Collin and Cristian Higuita added second-half goals for Orlando City.

Charlie Davies scored twice, Lee Nguyen added a penalty kick and the New England Revolution beat 10-man Toronto FC 3-1.

Davies opened the scoring for the Revolution in the 35th minute with a point-blank finish off Kelyn Rowe's cross.

Jozy Altidore was sent off four minutes later for violent conduct. He kicked in frustration at Revolution defender Jose Goncalves who was on the ground after the two battled for a ball in the air.

Nguyen doubled the lead with a penalty kick in the 44th minute, and Davies made it 3-0 in the 62nd.

Jonathan Osorio got one back for Toronto FC (8-8-4) with a right-footed shot from the top of the box in the 75th minute.

U.S. national team star Jermaine Jones entered the game in the 76th minute, his first appearance for the Revolution since May 31. He missed nine games due to a groin injury.

Ricardo Clark scored for Houston on a header in the 78th minute as the Dynamo and Sporting Kansas City tied 1-1.

The Dynamo tied it on a set-piece after a foul conceded by Sporting's Amadou Dia on the right wing. Brad Davis' service found Clark at the 6-yard box and his header got behind Tim Melia in the top left corner.

Kansas City scored early. Sporting was awarded a free kick in the sixth minute after a foul by Raul Rodriquez. Benny Feilhaber sent the kick into the middle of the penalty area and Dominic Dwyer rose for a header that beat Tyler Deric to the bottom left corner.

Houston almost tied it in the 32nd minute, but Melia made a sprawling save on Tim Davis' left-footed rocket from the top of the box.
