Erick 'Cubo' Torres set to make Dynamo debut after Chivas loan

Erick "Cubo" Torres will begin training with the Houston Dynamo on Friday after completing his loan to Chivas Guadalajara.

The Mexican international joined his MLS club in Houston on Thursday and could make his long-awaited debut as early as Tuesday in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal against Sporting Kansas City.

Torres, 22, was the lone Designated Player on Chivas USA when the franchise ceased operations after last season. MLS then purchased his contract from Guadalajara and the Dynamo signed him to a five-year DP deal, but immediately loaned him back to the Mexican club for six months.

But now that the Liga MX season has concluded Torres is set to return to the league where he scored 22 goals in 44 games in 2013 and 2014.

In April, Torres was accused of sexual abuse in Guadalajara but he was later cleared by authorities, and MLS said on Thursday that it had also cleared Torres to play after completing its own investigation.

"Based on the conclusions reached by the District Attorney of Guadalajara and the Attorney General for the State of Jalisco to close the investigation, along with the review conducted by MLS' independent legal firm in Mexico, the League is clearing Mr. Torres to play for the Houston Dynamo," the league said in a statement.
