Portland Timbers smash the Seattle Sounders, Red Bulls down NYCFC

Fanendo Adi scored twice in a 3-minute span in the second half to help the Portland Timbers beat the Seattle Sounders 4-1 on Sunday.

Darlington Nagbe opened the scoring for Portland in the 12th minute with his first goal of the season. He ran onto a pass from Diego Valeri, dribbled a few strides, and blasted a 25-yarder inside the left post.

Seattle tied in the 38th minute, with Lamar Neagle volleying a side-footed shot past goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey for his fourth goal of the season.

Adi made it 2-1 in the 74th minute. Nagbe shrugged off a defender to carry the ball toward the goal and passed to Adi near the penalty spot. The forward sent a one-time shot curling past diving goalkeeper Stefan Frei and into the upper right corner.

Two minutes later, Adi struck again. He dribbled into the Seattle box and ripped a low shot past Frei for his eighth goal of the season. It was his seventh multi-goal game since joining Portland in May 2014.

Rodney Wallace capped the scoring in second-half stoppage time. He took a pass from Maximiliano Urruti near the top of the box and placed a shot into the upper left corner for his first goal of the season.

Meanwhile in New York, second half goals from Bradley Wright-Phillips, Chris Duvall and Matt Miazga gave the New York Red Bulls a rousing 3-1 victory over New York City FC.

The two teams' highly-anticipated first meeting at famed Yankee Stadium, home to NYCFC, was made even more special by the attendance of future Blues players Frank Lampard and Andrea Pirlo.

In front of a charged home crowd, NYCFC had the better of play early, and earned a reward for their work in the sixth minute.

From a corner kick, Thomas McNamara chested down a nodded Andrew Jacobson pass and one-timed a right-footed shot past Red Bulls keeper Luis Robles.

The score stayed put at the break, but it took the Red Bulls just seven minutes to turn the game in the second half.

Wright-Phillips evened the score in the 47th minute, collecting a Sacha Kljestan cross in the middle of the box and left-footing into the top right corner of Josh Saunders' net.

Five minutes later, Duvall had NYRB in front for good, roofing an Anatole Bertrand Abang pass.

Miazga then added insurance 17 minutes from time, ending NYCFC's hopes of a four-game winning streak.
