Fire trade Quincy Amarikwa to Earthquakes for Ty Harden

The Chicago Fire have traded forward Quincy Amarikwa to the San Jose Earthquakes for defender Ty Harden.

Amarikwa had a career year in 2014, reaching career highs in scoring, assists, starts and games. But the former Earthquakes draft pick was deemed surplus to requirements this season, given Chicago's number of quality attacking options.

"We know Quincy well and we are happy to bring him to San Jose," Earthquakes manager Dominic Kinnear said in a club statement. "We think he will come here and help us as we head into a very busy and important part of the schedule."

An eight-year veteran, Harden will be reunited with Chicago head coach Frank Yallop, with whom he'd previously worked in 2013.

"Ty is a steady, dependable player who knows this league well," Yallop said in a statement. "I've known Ty for a number of years. He's a solid veteran presence and will provide depth to our side as we enter the second half of the campaign."

The 31-year-old Harden had spent the past three seasons with the Earthquakes.
