Real Salt Lake and Colorado Rapids share the points, Earthquakes see red

Clint Irwin recorded his sixth shutout of the season as the Colorado Rapids tied Real Salt Lake 0-0 on Sunday to snap the Rapids' three-game losing streak in the Rocky Mountain Cup.

Irwin and RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando are tied for second in the MLS with six clean sheets.

Colorado and Real Salt Lake both snapped two-game losing streaks.

Each team had good scoring chances in the closing minutes. Colorado's Dillon Powers missed a penalty shot in the 89th minute. He stalled his approach and Rimando dove the wrong way, but his shot rolled wide. On the final play of the game, RSL's Javier Morales gathered a loose ball near the penalty spot, but his shot deflected just wide.

Rimando has faced five penalty kicks this season and has only conceded two goals.

In Sunday's late game, the San Jose Earthquakes overcame two red cards to tie with 10-man FC Dallas0-0.

The Earthquakes played a man down for the majority of the second half, getting straight red cards in the 53rd and 87th minutes. FC Dallas was reduced to 10 men in the 75th.

San Jose is winless in its last there matches. FC Dallas was held scoreless for the fifth time this season.

San Jose's Mark Sherrod was whistled for the first red card. He was attempting to jump over Dan Kennedy, who was on the ground after securing a cross, and Sherrod's foot contacted the goalkeeper's head. It appeared to be accidental, as Kennedy was trying to get to his feet when Sherrod started his leap. San Jose's second red card came after J.J. Koval's studs-up challenge of Ryan Hollingshead. Koval entered as a substitute in the 89th.

FC Dallas' Je-Vaughn Watson was sent off after a studs-up challenge. On San Jose's ensuing free-kick, Chris Wondolowski sailed a header over the crossbar. Wondolowski missed another header in the 84th.
