MLS review: Jack Jewsbury's last-gasp winner lifts Timbers by Rapids

Jack Jewsbury scored in the 93rd minute and the Portland Timbers rallied in stoppage time to beat the Colorado Rapids 2-1 on Saturday night.

Colorado tied it at 1-1 in the 89th minute on Sam Cronin's strike from distance. But, after a nice toe poke from Ishmael Yartey in front of goal, Jewsbury slid a ball past goalkeeper Clint Irwin for the winner.

Portland, which has won two straight, snapped a two-game road losing streak and won at Colorado for the first time in seven matches, going 1-4-2.

Gaston Fernandez scored in the 38th minute to give Portland a 1-0 lead. Maximiliano Urruti used a skilled individual effort to beat three defenders and fed a ball to an open Fernandez, who beat Irwin inside the far post.

Chris Rolfe scored a penalty in the 84th minute and D.C. United beat the Philadelphia Union 2-1 to run its home unbeaten streak to 19 games.

Rolfe and Philadelphia's Zach Pfeffer battled for a service near the left side of the box and the ball deflected off the defender's arm, resulting in the penalty call.

D.C. snapped a three-game winless streak and tied the club record for an unbeaten home run. United padding its lead in the Eastern Conference to five points over New England.

Things started well for the Union. Just 5 minutes in, Andrew Wenger weaved his way laterally through the top of the 18-yard box until United's defense broke down. He found Sebastien Le Toux on the right flank alone, and his power right-footed shot beat Bill Hamid easily.

United, equalized in first-half stoppage time. Taylor Kemp's left-footed service came from wide on the left wing and found Chris Pontius at the penalty spot, where Pontius flicked a header into the far upper corner past the diving Brian Sylvestre, but Rolfe's penalty was the difference.

Sebastian Giovinco set up two goals and Toronto FC beat San Jose 3-1 to end the Earthquakes' unbeaten streak at five games.

Justin Morrow, Warren Creavalle and Luke Moore all scored for Toronto FC.

Giovinco has had a hand in 11 of Toronto's 17 goals, scoring five and assisting on six others. The former Juventus player has a goal or an assist in nine of Toronto's 11 games.

Chris Wondolowski scored for San Jose. He has eight goals this season and 101 overall.

The start of the game was delayed 23 minutes because of the threat of lightning.

Cristian Techera scored his first goal for Vancouver and the Whitecaps beat Real Salt Lake 2-1.

The 5-foot-2 winger jumped on a mix-up between Salt Lake defender Elias Vasquez and goalkeeper Nick Rimando in the 79th minute and slotted home the winner.

Techera is on a season-long loan to the Whitecaps from his Uruguayan club and has slowly found his footing in Major League Soccer since arriving in April.

Gershon Koffie also scored for Vancouver, while Javier Morales scored for RSL.

Harrison Shipp opened the scoring with a sparkling finish and the Chicago Fire easily handled the Montreal Impact 3-0 in soggy and windy conditions.

Chicago snapped a four-game winless streak. Chicago's Jon Busch wasn't forced to make a save for his first shutout of the season and the 83rd of his MLS career.

The Fire broke out in the 13th minute. Kennedy Igboananike beat Bakary Soumare for a loose ball in the left corner and found Shipp streaking through the penalty area. Shipp made no mistake, using the left to bury it upper 90 for his second of the season and give the Fire the early lead.

Montreal went down a man in the 37th minute when Marco Donadel was shown his second yellow card of the match for a bad tackle.

The Fire made it 2-0 at the 45-minute mark. David Accam deked Soumare on the edge of the 6-yard box and the defender hauled him down, drawing a penalty kick for Chicago. Jeff Larentowicz calmly fired to his right as Evan Bush dove the other way.

Chicago added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute. Igboananike took a feed from Razvan Cocis in the midfield, outraced Soumare to the penalty area, and beat Bush cleanly for his first career MLS goal.

Pedro Ribeiro scored in the 89th minute and Orlando City rallied to draw with the 10-man Columbus Crew 2-2.

Ribeiro, who missed the past seven games with a hamstring injury, was left alone after gathering a loose ball and sent in a goal from distance. Ribeiro had a shot go just wide in the 93rd minute for Orlando City.

Columbus was down a man for 74 minutes, but took a 2-1 lead in the 61st when Kei Kamara headed in his MLS-leading 10th goal of the season.

In the first half, Tony Tchani gave the Crew a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute after heading home Hector Jimenez's cross. It was the earliest goal Orlando City has given up in its inaugural season.

Columbus' Michael Parkhurst was shown a red card in the 16th minute for a questionable hand ball on the goal line. Orlando City's Kaka converted his fourth penalty of the season to level the game at 1. It was Kaka's third consecutive game with a goal.

David Villa scored on a first-half penalty as New York City FC and the Houston Dynamo drew 1-1.

Houston opened the scoring in the 16th minute on David Horst's header off a corner kick, but NYCFC was awarded its first penalty kick this season when Raul Rodriguez was whistled for handling the ball.

Villa rolled a well-placed penalty in first-half stoppage time to level the game at 1, but NYCFC remained winless in 11 straight games, three short of the record for an expansion team set by Vancouver in 2011.
