Jozy Altidore suffers hamstring injury in Toronto FC's draw

Jozy Altidore left Toronto FC's match against the New England Revolution on Saturday with a hamstring injury.

The United States striker was injured in the 18th minute after squaring a pass across the face of goal.

After being treated on the pitch he limped to the dressing room and was replaced by Luke Moore as Toronto went on to earn a 1-1 draw.

Toronto coach Greg Vanney confirmed Altidore had a hamstring injury but appeared "positive" after the game.

"I don't know the severity or the extent," Vanney said. "He felt a little something in the hamstring area but in speaking to him, he doesn't feel it's serious at all.

"We're hoping that the timeline is as short as possible. He felt enough that he couldn't go and it wasn't worth making it worse.

"We'll get the assessment but all indications from Jozy, who's had this injury before, is that it's on the minor side."

Altidore's fellow U.S. international Jermaine Jones left the game for the Revolution in the 63rd minute with a minor injury that had bothered him during training this week.

Altidore also injured his hamstring while playing for the United States in the World Cup last summer and missed the majority of the tournament.

An extended spell on the sidelines could also jeopardize his status for this summer's CONCACAF Gold Cup, which begins July 7.

The U.S. national team will open their summer camp in two weeks in preparation for friendlies against Netherlands on June 5 and Germany on June 10.
