MLS review: Lamar Neagle scores twice to help Sounders rip Rapids

Lamar Neagle scored twice and Obafemi Martins added a third goal as the Seattle Sounders managed a 3-1 win in Colorado.

Neagle opened the scoring in the fifth minute by curling in a shot from the corner of the 18-yard box, but the Rapids equalized through Gabriel Torres midway through the first half.

But three minutes later Neagle again put the Sounders ahead after receiving a ball over the top from Marco Pappa. Neagle's initial shot was saved by goalkeeper Clint Irwin but remained loose in the box for the Seattle man to put home.

Martins put the game out of reach with a slick turn and shot in the 73rd minute for his fourth goal of the year. After a Colorado turnover near midfield, Andy Rose sent a long ball over the top of the Colorado defense. Martins' back-heel first-touch split two defenders and he chipped goalkeeper Clint Irwin.

Federico Higuain scored a stunning goal and the Columbus Crew never looked back in a 3-0 win over Orlando City on Saturday.

Higuain backheeled in the opener in the 32nd minute after a poor clearance from Rafael Ramos, and it only got worse for the expansion team two minutes later when Ramos was sent off for a flying tackle.

The Crew coasted from that point, getting two second-half goals in a five-minute span from Justin Meram and Kei Kamara to earn their second win of the season.

Kamara picked the pocket of a defender in Orlando's box and Meram hammered in the finish. Then Kamara ran down Higuain's diagonal cross and chipped goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, who had come out of his box.

The Vancouver Whitecaps earned their MLS-best fifth win by downing previously unbeaten Real Salt Lake 1-0.

RSL were reduced to 10 men in the 76th minute when Sebastian Saucedo was issued a straight red card for a sliding tackle on Mauro Rosales, who just returned for a long injury absence.

The Whitecaps made their advantage count four minutes later. as Russell Teibert sent a cross for Darren Mattocks to head home.

RSL finished the game with nine men after Jamison Olave was sent off for a second yellow card in the 89th minute.

Ricardo Clark slammed home a rebound to help the Houston Dynamo earn a point on the road in a 1-1 draw with D.C. United.

Chris Rolfe opened the scoring for D.C. in the 36th minute with a perfect free kick over the wall and into the far corner from 24 yards out.

But Clark rallied the Dynamo back after D.C. goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra could only parry Will Bruin's hard shot directly into the path of the charging Clark.

With the draw, D.C. United went even on points with the New York Red Bulls atop the Eastern Conference.

Meanwhile in Carson, Omar Gonzalez scored in stoppage time as the LA Galaxy rallied late to beat Sporting KC 2-1.

Los Angeles won its second straight game, while Sporting KC had its four-game undefeated streak snapped.

Gonzalez redirected Juninho's corner kick with his right shin in the fourth minute of extra time and it deflected off a defender's knee into the back of the net.

The Galaxy's Baggio Husidic opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Sporting goalkeeper Luis Marin spilled Stefan Ishizaki's shot and an unmarked Husidic was at the far post for an easy tap in.

Krisztian Nemeth tied it in the 22nd minute for Sporting KC. Dominic Dwyer ran down a deep ball in the corner and drew three defenders when he dribbled into the 18-yard box. He found Benny Feilhaber at the penalty spot, who one-touched it to Nemeth for the finish.

Gyasi Zardes, who played in the U.S. national team's friendly against Mexico on Wednesday night, entered the match in the 69th minute.

Fabian Castillo scored twice, including the fastest goal in his club's history, as FC Dallas beat Toronto FC 3-2 in a game that ended early Sunday morning after a three-hour weather delay.

Officials stopped the game Saturday night at 8:20 p.m. local time due to lightning in the area and resumed at 11:43 p.m. with a few minutes left to play in the first half.
