FC Dallas selected goalkeeper Dan Kennedy on Wednesday with the top pick of Major League Soccer's dispersal draft, which allowed teams to select players from defunct side Chivas USA.
Seven former Chivas players were selected in the draft, while 13 teams decided to pass.
Clubs acquiring players through the dispersal draft take on the players' existing contract with Chivas USA for 2015 and exercise all options. Those Chivas players not selected will be available in the league's re-entry draft or waiver draft, when new contracts can be negotiated.
Chivas' star goal scorer, Mexico international striker Erick "Cubo" Torres, was not included in the dispersal draft while MLS exercises the option on his contract. Sources told ESPN FC last month that Torres will likely be made a designated player, but how Torres would then be allocated hasn't been determined.
Kennedy, 32, started the past four seasons for Chivas USA and was easily the top player available. The other six selected are all young players with high potential.
New York City FC selected 20-year-old midfielder Matthew Dunn with the second pick.

With the fourth pick, D.C. United selected Thomas McNamara, 23, who started the first six games of this season before injuring his knee.
Donny Toia, a bright spot in Chivas defense this season, went to the Montreal Impact with the sixth pick.
The Colorado Rapids selected forward Caleb Calvert, 18, with the eighth pick, and the San Jose Earthquakes took forward Kristopher Tyrpak, 22, with the ninth.
Finally, Toronto FC took 19-year-old Marco Delgado, who has played in 37 MLS games over the past three seasons.
Chivas USA ceased operations last month, with a brand new club with new ownership set to begin play in Los Angeles in 2017.
