Gerard Houllier: New York Red Bulls would like to keep Thierry Henry

Thierry Henry may yet continue his career with the New York Red Bulls, said the MLS outfit's sporting director Gerard Houllier.

Henry, 37, will see his current contract with the franchise he joined from Barcelona in 2010 end in December. And U.S. media speculation claims the Red Bulls' hierarchy may allow the Frenchman to leave in a bid to slash their wage bill.

Houllier, 67, the Red Bulls' international sporting director for football, told RMC the former Arsenal striker's future remains unclear despite the fact he has scored 10 goals and contributed 13 assists to help keep his side into playoff contention this season.

"For the moment, no decision has been made, whether it be in one direction or another. Thierry has not decided to end his career. We would like to keep him, but that also depends on him," the former Liverpool manager said.

"What is more, Thierry's in shape, he gives you the impression of never getting old because he scores goal after goal. If there is a different strategy, which means heading off with another squad, a younger squad because the team is getting a little old, I think Thierry could be part of that adventure. But I have been told that neither he nor the club have taken a decision."
