MLS Power Rankings: Atlanta, Sporting Kansas City stay at the top; Columbus slip to eighth
1. Atlanta United (no change)
Week 15 ranking: 1
Since the last edition of the rankings, Atlanta secured a road win in Columbus and fought back from a goal down against Portland to get a draw. Despite Josef Martinez's rough day in front of goal, that's good enough to retain the top spot.
2. Sporting Kansas City (no change)
Week 15 ranking: 2
Down two goals to Houston at home at halftime on Saturday, Sporting could have easily packed it in. Instead, the West leaders pushed forward and completed an epic 3-2 comeback on the back of excellent work from Daniel Salloi, Diego Rubio and Khiry Shelton.
3. New York Red Bulls (no change)
Week 15 ranking: 3
New York entered the World Cup break with a win over Seattle. On Saturday, the Red Bulls made a statement on Saturday with a 3-0 win over FC Dallas, a win earned despite playing a man down for most of the match.
4. New York City FC (+2)
Week 15 ranking: 6
In Domenec Torrent's first game in charge for NYCFC, his club lost David Villa to a first-half injury and fell behind a goal. What looked like it would be a poor debut turned into a triumph thanks to a brace from Jo Inge Berget.
5. FC Dallas (no change)
Week 15 ranking: 5
Oscar Pareja's side looked out of sorts in New Jersey, where it suffered just its second loss of the year. Kellyn Acosta's first-half removal was shocking and might have long-term ramifications.
6. LAFC (+1)
Week 15 ranking: 7
Two goals in the first 10 minutes carried LAFC to a win over the Crew on Saturday night. Laurent Ciman now has more goals in 13 games (3) than he scored in three seasons in Montreal.
7. Portland Timbers (+1)
Week 15 ranking: 8
A road draw in Atlanta is a decent enough result for a Timbers side that lived on the edge against United. Portland pulled ahead of Vancouver into fifth place in the Western Conference with the point.
8. Columbus Crew SC (-4)
Week 15 ranking: 4
For the first time since April, Columbus is in the midst of a losing streak. A loss to Atlanta at home on June 13 combined with Saturday's loss in LA means the Crew will have to beat RSL next week to avoid matching April's three-game losing run.
9. Houston Dynamo (no change)
Week 15 ranking: 9
Road wins are precious in MLS, so Houston's 3-2 loss in Kansas City after being up two goals in the first half will sting a bit for Wilmer Cabrera and Co. The Dynamo had a chance to jump into a playoff spot with a win.
10. New England Revolution (+1)
Week 15 ranking:11
The Revs will restart their post-World Cup break at home versus DC United next weekend. New England went into the interval off a draw against San Jose back on June 13.
11. LA Galaxy (+1)
Week 15 ranking: 12
The Galaxy will try to turn an unbeaten run of two games into an unbeaten run of three games when they face off against San Jose next weekend.
12. Philadelphia Union (+4)
Week 15 ranking: 16
The Union are working to send sporting director Earnie Stewart off in style, starting with a resounding 4-0 win over Vancouver at Talen Energy Stadium on Saturday. Stewart's big offseason signing, attacking midfielder Borek Dockal, scored twice in the win.
13. Vancouver Whitecaps (-3)
Week 15 ranking: 10
A long trip east went poorly for the Caps, who saw a six-game unbeaten run end with a 4-0 humiliation at the hands of the Philadelphia Union. Vancouver's defending was exceptionally poor.
14. Toronto FC (-1)
Week 15 ranking: 13
Five points from three matches before the World Cup break was a step forward for TFC. That decent run of form came to an end in New York, where the Reds let a lead slip in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of NYCFC. That's six goals conceded in the last two for the champs.
15. Real Salt Lake (no change)
Week 15 ranking: 15
Mike Petke's club couldn't leverage home-field advantage on Saturday, drawing with San Jose 1-1 at Rio Tinto Stadium. The result ended RSL's six-game home winning streak, but kept it tied on points for the last playoff spot in the West.
16. Montreal Impact (+4)
Week 15 ranking: 20
Remi Garde and the Impact made some hay off of Orlando on both ends of the World Cup break. A win on the road in Florida means the Impact now have an actual winning streak for the first time since March.
17. Orlando City (-3)
Week 15 ranking: 14
No improvement evident for the Lions' post-Jason Kreis dismissal, as they lost for seventh time in a row on Saturday. Orlando lost to Montreal again, this time at home, ahead of a trip to Atlanta next weekend -- with or without a new head coach.
18. Chicago Fire (-1)
Week 15 ranking: 17
A pair of draws on either side of the World Cup break, including a 1-1 result against Seattle on Saturday, has the Fire on a four-game unbeaten run. Veljko Paunovic's team needs wins, not draws, but points of any kind represent progress.
19. Seattle Sounders FC (-1)
Week 15 ranking: 18
It's hard to believe, but Saturday's equalizer against Chicago was Clint Dempsey's first league goal of 2018. That pretty much sums up the season so far for the Sounders, who need a massive turnaround to get back to the playoffs.
20. Colorado Rapids (+3)
Week 15 ranking: 23
The Rapids haven't had much to celebrate this season, but Saturday's 3-2 win over Minnesota is a bright spot. Shkelzen Gashi's return to the team might be the key to Colorado squeezing out a few more wins before the season is over.
21. Minnesota United (-2)
Week 15 ranking: 19
The Loons lost a wild 3-2 result in Colorado, shipping three goals in the second half to the typically goal-shy Rapids. Miguel Ibarra's dismiss for a ridiculous swipe at Danny Wilson proved disastrous for Minnesota.
22. San Jose Earthquakes (-1)
Week 15 ranking: 21
The Quakes broke a four-game losing streak with a pair of draws before and after the World Cup break. Saturday's 1-1 result away to Real Salt Lake wasn't enough to prevent San Jose from falling into last place in the West.
23. D.C. United (-1)
Week 15 ranking: 22
United will be back in league action on Saturday in New England.
