Lyon sign teenage striker Jean-Philippe Mateta to replace Alexandre Lacazette

Lyon have signed teenage striker Jean-Philippe Mateta from Championnat National side Chateauroux to a five-year deal.

Les Gones have made their move for the 19-year-old after star striker Alexandre Lacazette was sidelined with injury.

Ligue 1 clubs are allowed to sign one player from another domestic club outside the regular transfer window under the so-called "joker" rule, and Lyon have felt compelled the play that card only two weeks after the window closed because of Lacazette's injury.

"OL is a club with seven titles as champions of France," Mateta said on the Lyon website. "I followed them on television when I was younger. I never imagined I would one day play for this great club."

Lyon will reportedly pay around €4 million for Mateta, with further bonuses built into the deal based on performance.

Mateta, who scored 11 goals in 22 games for Chateauroux last season, was linked with Lyon and Tottenham during the summer.

He has begun this season well too, scoring twice in the league as well as a hat trick against Le Havre in the second round of the Coupe de la Ligue.
