Lyon's Nabil Fekir still hopeful for France team chance

Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir has not quite given up hope of making France's squad for Euro 2016.

Fekir, 22, looked certain to miss this summer's tournament when he had to undergo surgery on a cruciate ligament injury he picked up while playing for France against Portugal last September.

France assistant manager Guy Stephan indicated earlier this week that it was unlikely that Fekir would be involved for the Euro 2016 hosts in June.

Last season's Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year has recently returned to training, however, and could feature for Lyon's reserve side this weekend.

The Lyon native is targeting a return to first-team action for his club's Ligue 1 game against Montpellier on April 8. On Friday, he tweeted that the doctors cleared him to play "between 45 minutes to an hour."

He then hopes to get back to his best before France coach Didier Deschamps names his final squad for Euro 2016 on May 12.

"That's my goal," Fekir told RMC. "I know it's going to be difficult but I'm going to do everything I can."

When asked if he was still dreaming of featuring for Les Bleus when they open their campaign against Romania on June 10, Fekir said he would be lying if he said no.

"The Euros are in the back of my mind," he explained. "I know it will be hard -- there are a lot of people in front of me."

Fekir said he would be disappointed to miss out but recognised that successfully putting his injury problems behind him was more important.

"Little by little, I'm rediscovering my feelings," he told RMC. "I feel at 80 percent. I'm good.

"I'm lacking rhythm. I can feel that at training... that will come back with matches. I'm not at all worried on that level."
