Sadio Mane joins Africa's Premier League 50 club

Sadio Mane became the seventh African player to score 50 Premier League goals when he hit his half century with two strikes in Liverpool's 4-1 victory over Cardiff City on Saturday.

Mane had previously gone four matches without a goal in the top flight since scoring in the 2-1 victory at Leicester City on September 1.

However, he ended his drought in some style on Saturday, scoring the Reds' second and fourth goals as they downed the Welsh side at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah fired the hosts into a 10th-minute lead but the Reds were made to work for their second, with Mane only doubling their advantage in the 66th minute with a thumping effort.

Cardiff, who had largely frustrated Liverpool for the first half, reduced the arrears in the 77th minute through Callum Paterson, but Jurgen Klopp's side responded strongly.

Substitute Xherdan Shaqiri restored their two-goal advantage with six minutes to play, before Mane rounded off the rout after superb work from Salah.

The goals take Mane's Premier League tally to 50, making him Africa's seventh highest scorer in the competition's history.

Didier Drogba leads the way after scoring 104 goals during two spells with Chelsea, ahead of Emmanuel Adebayor (97) and Yakubu (95).

Yaya Toure (62), Nwankwo Kanu (54) and Efan Ekoku (52) are the other players ahead of Mane in the current standings.
