LIVERPOOL, England -- Trent Alexander-Arnold rued Liverpool's loss of "concentration" in the final moments of their Champions League semifinal first leg with Roma, but is still confident about the Reds' chances of reaching the final.
Liverpool were 5-0 up after 69 minutes at Anfield on Tuesday before Roma scored two goals in the 81st and 85th minute to keep the tie alive heading into next week's return encounter at the Stadio Olimpico.
Roma overcame a 4-1 deficit from the first leg against Barcelona in the quarterfinals to reach the semifinals, with Alexander-Arnold insisting Liverpool cannot afford to let complacency creep in.
On conceding two goals in the final stages, the 19-year-old told reporters: "I wouldn't say [we were] complacent, I would just say we lost a bit of concentration.
"I think it was hard for us in the last 15 minutes, they came out on the attack and had a lot of confidence. It just shows a goal or two can change a tie. We will be thinking that going into the next game.
"I still think it's a good result for us. We can't complain about scoring five goals in a Champions League semifinal, so I'm looking forward to the game next week and we'll be looking to finish the tie off.
"We can't rule them out [because] they did a miracle against Barcelona in the last round. I think Barca might have been thinking they were already through to the semis a few weeks ago. Looking at it now, we've got to finish the job off."
Alexander-Arnold added: "We are excited [about potentially reaching the final] but we can't too excited. We've still got another 90 minutes to get there and it will be tough. We've got to readjust ourselves, reassess ourselves and go again next week."
Meanwhile, Georginio Wijnaldum believes there are many examples of dramatic comebacks in the Champions League in recent history that should provide a stark warning to Liverpool prior to the second leg next Wednesday.
However, Wijnaldum is confident that the firepower Liverpool possess with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane can kill any chances of a Roma fightback.
"You see a lot of strange games in the Champions League -- this season with them against Barcelona," he said. "I think a lot of people thought Barcelona was going to the next round but at the end they didn't.
"Barcelona showed it last season against Paris Saint-Germain. You always have to be aware that things can go wrong.
"If someone said to us before the game: 'Would you be happy with a 5-2 result?', we would probably say yes. We have to be happy and when we go there we have to do the same things. We have to score [and make it] even harder for them.
"We have to be 100 percent concentrated because every goal can give them confidence and every goal we score can give them less confidence. We have to be sharp."
Salah scored his 42nd and 43rd goal of the season in all competitions on Tuesday, breaking the deadlock with a stunning curling before then delivering a cool finish right before half-time.
The Egyptian, who was crowned PFA Player of the Year on Sunday, then delivered assists for his two forward partners in the second half.
"It's great to have in the team, especially in the form he is in right now," Wijnaldum said. "He decides moments, he is there, he helps the team with his goals and assists.
"The way he plays is always a threat to the opponent, so that helps other players to perform better."
