Liverpool paid over £15 million after sacking Brendan Rodgers

Liverpool paid out over £15 million in "redundancy and associated costs" following the dismissal of Brendan Rodgers and his coaching staff, the club's latest financial accounts show.

The now-Celtic manager had more than two-and-a-half years left on his contract at Anfield before he was sacked in October 2015.

The total amount of £15,669,000 paid for the 12 months up to May 31, 2016, has been revealed in the accounts filed at Companies House.

Assistant manager Colin Pascoe and first-team coach Mike Marsh were dismissed in the summer of 2015, with Rodgers appointing Sean O'Driscoll and Gary McAllister as replacements.

However, Rodgers lost his job five months later as O'Driscoll, head of performance, Glen Driscoll, and head of opposition analysis, Chris Davies, also followed him out of the exit door prior to the appointment of Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool reported record revenue in their accounts, but made a pre-tax loss of £19.8m, which the club state was "mainly as a result of further investment and turnover in the first-team squad."
