Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool can 'achieve something special' if fans are patient

Jurgen Klopp has told Goal that his first year at Liverpool was better than anything he could have envisaged and says the club can "achieve something special" in the future if the supporters stay patient.

Klopp celebrated his first anniversary in charge of the Reds earlier this month, guiding them to two cup finals in his debut season.

Liverpool have started the 2016-17 campaign brightly and currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League table, just two points behind leaders Manchester City.

"Having the opportunity to work for Liverpool is a dream come true and better than I imagined, actually," Klopp said. "We've showed Liverpool fans the first steps and I love the idea of progressing together.

"Everyone says the world around us is kind of crazy, with the big money, and everyone talks about the small things, the big things, but we want people to talk about the football. Let's talk about the football.

"People talk about the number of years that the club haven't won the league, but really for us it's only been a year which makes us feel better. If the Liverpool fans are patient then we can achieve something special here."

Liverpool have produced a number of eye-catching performances already this season, with impressive victories over Arsenal, Chelsea and champions Leicester City.

Former Borussia Dortmund boss Klopp is pleased with how his players have taken to his demands, but insists it is still going to take time in order for them to carry out his exact style of play.

"When people talk about me they talk about hard work, more running than anybody else, high pressure, counter-pressing -- but this is only one part," he added. "I don't care what people say about me but this is my image. But that's not bad because I'm here because of my image."
