Daniel Agger has 'expectations' for Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool start

Former Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has high hopes for the Reds this season and believes they are on the right path under manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Danish centre-back, who spent eight years at Liverpool, was at Anfield on Monday night to watch the 0-0 draw with Manchester United.

Liverpool currently sit fourth in the Premier League table after eight games, having only been beaten once so far this campaign and enjoying eye-catching victories over Arsenal, Chelsea and champions Leicester City.

"It's going well so far," Agger told the Liverpool's official website. "To be honest, I have some expectations this year, especially after last year.

"Jurgen is looking good for the club, I think he's doing well. He has some great ideas and the way he talks with the media, everything, I like."

The 31-year-old was part of Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool side that scored 101 Premier League goals, which saw them agonisingly miss out on the title to Manchester City in 2013-14.

The Reds have already scored 26 goals in all competitions throughout this campaign and Agger says having free-scoring forwards in a team provides comfort for defenders.

"It means you can let a few in and still win the game -- that's some confidence to have in a team," Agger said.

"As a defender, it's not always the best because when you attack a lot, you obviously let more goals in. But it's easier when you can score two, three, four or five sometimes. It's easier to let one or two in."

The ex-Denmark international retired from football back in June and recently opened up about his overuse of pain-killing medication throughout his career.

"It's difficult and it'll always be difficult," he added. "Even though I've just finished my career, I miss it, I really, really miss it.

"But at the same time I know it's the right decision. I can come here with a good feeling, a smile on my lips, and enjoy it -- that's the most important thing for me. I can enjoy it but miss it at the same time."
