France legends Christophe Dugarry and Emmanuel Petit have both criticised Mamadou Sakho for the public outburst they believe could prove "fatal" for his Liverpool career.
Sakho, 26, took to social media in the early hours of Saturday to complain about his treatment at the hands of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, whom the France international feels has frozen him out after he refused to leave on loan in the summer. The post was later deleted.
Dugarry, however, believes the former Paris Saint-Germain player should have aired his views to Klopp personally in private, rather than making public his frustration.
"He doesn't need to talk to his fans. He needs to talk to his coach. What is he doing talking to his fans at three in the morning? With emojis and all that," Dugarry told SFR Sport.
"We don't give a s--. We're not at the circus. If you have a problem, go talk to your coach, find a solution, solve the problem. Why does he need to talk to his 'fans?' Ronaldo and Messi have fans, the others... you shouldn't take yourself for what you aren't."
Sakho signed a new long-term deal at Anfield last season and was initially part of Klopp's first-choice XI, only for a knee injury to rule him out for two months before he was temporarily suspended in April following an alleged anti-doping violation.
Though he was later cleared, it was a significant setback for the defender as it meant he missed Euro 2016.
Sakho then had a disagreement with Klopp during Liverpool's preseason tour of the United States and was sent home early for disciplinary issues. He has not appeared for the club this season.
Former Arsenal and Chelsea player Petit told SFR Sport that Sakho, who joined Liverpool in 2013, had nobody but himself to blame for the situation.
"I don't get the impression Klopp is someone inflexible, that his door is closed," he said. "On the contrary, I get the impression he's very close to his players. He showed that last year with his management, with his coaching. It's a shame. I think it's another outburst from him [Sakho], and it could be fatal."
