Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: Second half could have been better

LIVERPOOL -- Jurgen Klopp said he was pleased with his side's display in the 5-1 home win over Hull City but felt they could have played better in the second half.

The Merseysiders recorded their fourth successive win with a dominant display against the newly-promoted outfit at Anfield on Saturday.

"The first half was brilliant," Klopp told a news conference afterwards. "That was how football should be if you are able to do it. You have to show this.

"In the first few minutes you could really see how strong Hull could be in counterattacks -- really good, really strong and difficult to defend.

"We were really strong in possession today. But the most impressive thing today was the counter-pressing in the game, with this big amount of possession.

"I think it was the best game in counter-pressing that we have played until now. That was very important, because we scored the goals right and all that stuff, but winning the ball back is so important and it becomes really difficult for the opponent to increase confidence."

Adam Lallana gave Liverpool the lead with 17 minutes gone before Hull's Ahmed Elmohamady was sent off for deliberate handball in the penalty area.

James Milner made it 2-0 from the spot and the home side continued to pile on the pressure, with Sadio Mane adding a third.

It was a similar tale after half-time, despite David Meyler pulling one back for the visitors, as Philippe Coutinho fired in from long range and Milner converted a second penalty after substitute Daniel Sturridge was fouled by Andrew Robertson.

Klopp added: "I don't know how many times in my life, and I've had four or five hundred games as a manager, that I've won 5-1 in this kind of [way].

"It's all good and I don't want to criticise but I think we could have done better in the second half, honestly. It was good, even in the second half, but not as good as it could have been.

"In the second half, a little bit better would have been nice. We have a lot of things to improve and one of the things is if you are brilliant, you need to be brilliant for 95 minutes."
