The uncertainty over Mamadou Sakho's immediate playing future was put to rest on Tuesday after the World Anti-Doping Agency confirmed that they won't appeal against UEFA's decision to absolve him of taking a banned substance.
The Liverpool defender was banned by UEFA in April for 30 days after testing positive for a "fat-burning" substance called Higenamine.
UEFA's independent Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB), however, opted not to extend the suspension in May as there was debate over whether the substance should even be on the WADA banned list.
WADA maintained on Tuesday that Higenamine was indeed a prohibited substance, but the body would not pursue further sanctions for the 26-year-old, who missed last season's Europa League final and was not picked for France's European Championship squad.
"With the support of its List Expert Group, WADA thoroughly reviewed the full case file along with recently published articles on Higenamine," a WADA spokesman told the Telegraph.
"WADA supported the List Expert Group's unanimous view that Higenamine is a beta2-agonist and does indeed fall within the S3 class of the Prohibited List.
"However, after careful review of the specific circumstances of the case, WADA decided not to appeal. Mr Sakho had already served a provisional suspension of one month and, given the circumstances of the case, it is uncertain whether a significantly higher sanction would have been justified and obtained based on the [WADA] Code and, more specifically, Mr Sakho's degree of fault."
Sakho is available to play for Liverpool against Tottenham this weekend, however reports have recently linked the France international with a loan-move away from the club.
